From Paris with Love – Top 5 Places to Visit in Paris
Brandon and I spent 5 days in Paris last summer. It was a part of a much larger trip, but much more on that later. We had this grand idea that traveling Europe would be as easy as traveling around the states. And actually, in theory, this ideology was spot on, if you didn’t mind day long train trips or flights on inconspicuous airliners similar to Spirit. So, what was suppose to be a week long journey where we hopped from country to country, turned to a 5 day trip in Paris in the city of love. But you won’t hear any complaints out of us.
5 Days in Paris meant getting to tackle our top five ((I am such a tourist)) landmarks. So with camera(s) in hand we took on these top five 5 tourist locations while in Paris.
1. Effle Tower
This one is an absolute no brainer. Our trip started in Normandy in West France, so we took a 3.5 hour train ride inland to Paris. I will never forget the euphoric feeling of first laying my eyes on this twisted metal monument I had seen my entire life through mediums.
2. The Louvre
The home of the Mona Lisa and The Venus de Milo, The Louvre is the world’s largest museum. We spent an entire day here lost in the arts of centuries before us. I will forever always have a special place in my heart for both The Louvre and The Venus de Milo, because it was in front of this statue we got the email we had been approved for our first home!
3. Pont du Carrousel and Seine River ((Yes a two for one))
The Seine River is a 483 mile long commercial river that flows from Paris into the English Channel. Famously home of the lock bridge (Pont des Arts) where lovers affixed padlocks with their names. Though 45 tons worth of locks were removed from the Pont des Arts bridge for preservation, lovers have set their eyes on the Pont Neuf bridge where the locks are slowly beginning to stack up.
4. Notre-Dame Cathedral
Notre-Dame is a medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité. Though this is one of the most visited places in Paris, the show must go on. During our visit we were able to view a mass in session, attendants seemingly not bothered by the photographs and staring.
5. Arch de Triumph
Translated Triumphal Arch of the Star, the Arch de Triumph, honours those who fought and died for France in the Napoleonic and French Revolutionary war. To get to this monument by foot, you will have to travel underground, as it is impossible to get through the chaotic traffic that circles the monument. Every road in Paris leads to the Arch, so pull out your panoramic camera while visiting this gargantuan monument.
